The Komets brought their all inclusive A-Game vs. the Patriots (a team with no beginners) on Sept. 29th, 2007 to battle for the Stanley Keg (a unassuming and empty beer keg). As disapointing as it may have been to have lost by a single goal (in the final minute and a half), I am proud of our team play and our heart.
We now begin the new Fall Session with two practices on the 6th and 13th of Oct., and have our new logo's printed on our jerseys. The session has been extended to 12 weeks (to allow for the two practices) and now implement the PointStreak system, tracking the stats of the league, team and players.

I had one of the greatest Hockey experiences this past week when I took my son to a Parent-Child stick-n-puck at the Dr. Pepper Star Center in Duncanville, Texas. Two other dads asked if I wanted to play a half-rink scrimmage against 6 or so 10 - 13 year old kids (all who skated better than I did). I didn't have any protection aside from a helmet and gloves, but accepted for the opportunity to play a game that didn't mean anything to me aside from a challenge. It ended up being the most fun I have yet had on the ice. I spent perhaps an hour on the ice, and discovered that after perhaps 20 minutes I forgot about skating and began to skate automatically to get to where the puck was. This allowed me to concentrate on puck handling and avoiding running into the kids.
Our 2nd team practice was simply a 4-on-4 half-ice scrimmage which allowed me to practice the same skills used in the parent-child stick-n-puck, but against my own teammates. I was able to get a couple of goals and use my meager DEKE skills against a couple of folks. It also gave me an idea of where my skating skills rate against the rest of the team (I maybe can out skate two others (making me the 3rd worse skater on the team)); Not unexpected as I have only been skating since March of 2007 (7 months). I get better each Tuesday when I do a couple hours of open skating, and intend to begin participating in Drop-In hockey games over the next few weeks.
I have an extra game (The Heineken Cup) this Friday (the 19th) in Grapevine, Texas. This game pits two true I-League teams against one another as a sort of exibition game amongst different divisions. The Komets were going to pass this game off to the LeftOvers this session, but it appears the LeftOvers have disbanded, though may come back with a new name and new roster. Our better players will be forced to play left-handed I think! :)
